With her project “Stages of the ordinary”, Hanna shines a new light on pre-industrial ornamental products, with the intention of sharing their forgotten communicative potential and their functionality.
She present an ongoing project that approaches ornament from multiple perspectives, ranging from decorative to practical. Amongst others, this project has resulted in a contemporary reinterpretation of a coffee pot, that had a coffee pot from the Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam, NL) as a starting point. This new interpretation has both decorative as practical value.

She started with products that function just fine, but aren’t appreciated anymore in current interiors. First she dissected them, to get to the essence of the ornament, then she built them up again to introduce them in our time. This search for new interpretations has been a dynamic design process of stacking, cutting, stitching, flattening and folding existing images and shapes. With these simple methods, Hanna transforms the existing shape of a product. This gives rise to new interpretations that question a familiar image and create a new aesthetic. She captured this constant change in a book
"Stages of the ordinary" illustrates Hanna's urge to connect the past with the present, decoration with construction, images and products as well as function with functionlessness.

In her work Hanna is constantly studying, copying and transforming the everyday objects we surround ourselves with. These objects have an immense influence on how we experience the world and are often taken for granted. For her, it's about exploring the never ending flow of potential and finding new interpretations hidden in our daily lives. With the project 'Stages of the ordinary' she created a set of design principles that continuously generate new structures by combining and transforming elements from context, history, material and technique.
